The Battle of Sankelmark was a minor battle during the Second Schleswig War. It occurred on 5 February 1864 at Sankelmark, on the road between Schleswig and Flensburg, during the Danish retreat after Dannevirke
Austrian troops gathered near the Danish rearguard near Sankelmark. A brigade consisting of troops from the Vendsyssel and Copenhagen under oberst Max Müller counter-attacked and thus secured the Danish force's withdrawal.
